Get the best cup from every bag
Great coffee is simple when you get a few things right: fresh beans, clean water, the correct grind, and a good ratio. Here's how to brew Coffee Crate at home.
Four golden rules
- 1Buy fresh, grind fresh. Grind right before brewing for the best aroma and flavor.
- 2Use good water. Filtered water, just off the boil (about 200°F / 93°C).
- 3Match grind to method. Coarse for French press, medium for drip, fine for espresso.
- 4Mind the ratio. Start around 1:16 — about 2 Tbsp of coffee per 6 oz of water.
Four ways to brew
Pour Over
Medium-fine · 1:16 · 3 min
Rinse the filter, add coffee, pour a little water to bloom 30 seconds, then pour slowly in circles until done.
French Press
Coarse · 1:15 · 4 min
Add coffee and hot water, stir, steep four minutes, then press the plunger down slowly and serve.
Drip Machine
Medium · 1:16 · 5 min
Use a fresh filter and filtered water, level the grounds, and let it run. Brew a fuller pot for the best balance.
Cold Brew
Coarse · 1:8 · 12–18 hrs
Combine coffee and cold water, steep in the fridge overnight, strain, then dilute to taste over ice.
1 : 16
One part coffee to sixteen parts water is the sweet spot for most brews. Like it stronger? Try 1:15. Lighter? 1:17. Adjust to taste and note what you love.
